The Micromine team has teamed up with IMDEX’s ioGAS to implement the ability to import ioGAS’ native .gas files, directly into Micromine for our next major release, Micromine 2020.
ioGAS is a leading third-party data analysis software specifically designed for the resources industry. With the powerful ability to directly import .gas files, geological and geochemical interpretation is now easier than ever with Micromine. ioGAS’ .gas files are converted into Micromine .DAT format, retaining attributes such as colour, symbols and size from ioGAS:

You can see that the colour is brought directly into Micromine as a colour field, a new field that was introduced in Micromine 2018. ioGAS symbol numbers correlate with a predefined symbol set of ioGAS’ symbology which is imbedded into Micromine 2020 as standard.
As ioGAS data contains X, Y and Z coordinates, it is easily brought into VIZEX as points:

From the ioGAS colours and shapes, we can then interpret geological boundaries. For example, these points were manually interpreted with strings in plan view based on colour and shape. Closed strings are assigned a hatch pattern:

Downhole data from a .gas file can also be brought into Micromine as points:

Where attributes, such as material type, can be implicitly or explicitly modelled:

Or displayed alongside geological logging to determine the confidence in the accuracy of interpreted boundaries and contacts, here we have ioGAS attributes next to lithology hatches. The attributes correlate well with changes in lithology.

In Micromine, drillhole traces are easily created from downhole points in the .gas file. Collar and survey files are generated from point files to create a drillhole database and traces.

Micromine is well equipped to provide users a multitude of options to display downhole data. One example is bar graphs. They are a nice way of showing how geochemical properties (in this case K:Al) differ between logged geological units.

Geochemical data and ioGAS attributes are also summarized well in Micromine’s Drillhole Log feature:

These are just some of the Micromine features that can be used with ioGAS files and we look forward to working more with IMDEX and their ioGAS team.
